Maciej Kania will start the Erasmus+ Internship in the Institute of Science and Technology Austria. He will work under supervision of prof. Tim Vogels, head of neurocomputational lab in the subject of synaptic plasticity, network dynamics and single-neuron biophysics. Traineeship will last 2 months from February to April 2022. Congratulations to Maciej!

Talk at IIMCB
Tomorrow I’ll give a talk about how pattering precision is achieved in developing tissues at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw. It will be streamed on zoom and it is open to everyone. The link to the talk can be found at: https://www.facebook.com/events/438862617637542?ref=newsfeed
Aspects of Neuroscience 2021
Over the weekend Tomek attended “Aspects of Neuroscience” 10th edition in Warsaw. It was a mixture of on-site and online talks by both well-established and early stage researchers. More details at https://www.aspectsofneuro.com/.
Naukowe Czwartki (Thursdays with science)
It was my great pleasure to give popular science talk on connection between development of multicellular systems and GPS navigation. The talk was aimed for high school students and took place in October. It is now available on-line at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Cwk8W0wi6I&t=67s
Lab retreat
We went for half-day trip to Ojców National Park. We experienced sunny Polish autumn and had plenty of scientific discussions. We got back to our desks with a lot of new energy!

Maciej and Richard talks at the 34th Marian Smoluchowski Symposium!
The 34th Marian Smoluchowski Symposium on Statistical Physics came to an end with plenty of great talks. On Wednesday Maciej presented his research on mechanics of domain formation with analytical insights on spatial and temporal aspects of domain stability. Maciej’s talk was followed by Richard discussing how robustness and precision is achieved in the developing spinal cord by exploring system level-feedback between source and target tissue. We are looking forward to the next edition of Smoluchowski conference!
Maciej starts one semester in Montreal
Maciej Kania has recently started his bilateral exchange at the University of Montreal in Canada. In the fall semester of 2021/22, he will continue his undergraduate studies in neurosciences mainly focused on neurodevelopment and memory processes. Good luck Maciej!
Automated Labs
Adela has recently written an article about the role of robotics in laboratories. It appeared in a quarterly Technical Review—The Codex published by DaVinciLabs, a multi-disciplinary research centre. The whole issue also containing articles on sustainable textiles, AI, and an interview with Prof Alessio Fasano and can be accessed here: https://www.davincilabs.eu/downloads/The_Codex_Q3_2021.pdf
PhD scholarship available!
We have opening for scholarship for PhD students. The project goal is to identify regulatory mechanisms that affect patterning precision in the developing spinal cord. Details can be found at: https://zagorskigroup.com/open-positions/. If you are interested please contact me in advance. We wait for your applications till 17 September!
Cellular Agriculture
Adela has recently written an article about the premise of cultured meat technology. It appeared in a quarterly Technical Review—The Codex published by DaVinciLabs, a multi-disciplinary research centre. The whole issue also containing articles on quantum computing, AI, and an interview with José Ignacio Latorre, can be accessed here: https://www.flipsnack.com/davincilabs/the-codex-q2-2021.html
