Last week, Adela Staszowska joined our group as a postdoc. Adela did a postdoc at the Randall Centre for Cell and Molecular Biophysics at King’s College London. She will investigate how gene regulatory networks interpret noisy morphogen signals.

The outstanding young researchers received scholarships from the Minister of Science and Higher Education. 5 out of 18 scholarships at the Jagiellonian University went to the researchers at the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Computer Science: Anna Majcher Fitas, Kamil Korzekwa, Rafał Zuzak, Mateusz Łącki and Marcin Zagórski.

Yesterday Sława Szostek from CM UJ delivered a very in-depth seminar on coronaviruses in the Monday series of “Interdisciplinary seminars: Enigmas of Chance”. We look forward to more interdisciplinary seminars.

On Monday Maciej gave seminar at IChF Warsaw. We also had intense discussions about noise effects in gene regulation with members of Anna Ochab-Marcinek group (http://groups.ichf.edu.pl/ochab). Great stay!

On Monday (25.11, 12:15, room D-2-43) Anna Ochab Marcinek from Institute of Physical Chemistry PAN in Warsaw will discuss her recent work on contributions to noise in gene expression from cell divisions and other mechanisms. Everybody is welcome!

Today (12:00, room D-2-43), Tomasz Kościółek from Małopolska Centre of Biotechnology UJ and University of California San Diego will tell us about his recent work on predicting structure and function of human gut microbiome proteins with applications in metagenomics. Everybody is welcome!

Last week, Richard Ho from the University of Edinburgh joined our group as a postdoc. Richard will develop models that will help to understand regulatory mechanisms acting during neural pattern specification in the developing spinal cord.

Tomorrow I will give a talk in the Computational biology and bioinformatics (BOB) seminar series at MIM UW. The talk about information processing in developmental systems will be at room 5820 @Banacha 2, 10:15, Wed 16/10/2019.

The conference of Polish Bioinformatics Society finished on Saturday. It was great opportunity to discuss gene regulation and how is information processed in developmental systems. The event was held in Wielopolski Palace in the magnificent assembly hall of the Krakow’s City Council.

The Smoluchowski conference co-organised by Maciej Majka starts tomorrow! This year theme is information processing in living and non-living systems. Our work will be presented on Friday, 9:30 am.
